Randy Newman's satire is razor sharp, and it's no better than on the provocative opening song Rednecks. His political songs remain tragically relevant and the love ballads are pitch perfect, and both lyrically have so much to offer, and reveal a depth to his artistry.

Black Sabbath
Arriving to this album with a prejudice against Heavy Metal and Hard Rock I was nervous about listening to The Sabbath. Whilst I hated the vocals of Ozzy Osbourne, instrumentally the album is full of great riffs and even contains some softer melodies including the beautiful song Solitude.

Her powerhouse voice carries all the tracks, but the instrumentation is beautiful too. It feels like authentic soul, rather than a more modern record. Occasionally a couple of the songs feel less interesting, but otherwise it's a true classic.
